Journey’s End Refugee Services began as a small but zealous effort of Bethlehem Presbyterian Church and church member Phyllis Tompkins to gather local resources to meet the needs of Cambodian refugees resettling in Western New York. Other local churches expressed support and the work of Journey’s End had begun. Soon Journey’s End was providing a range of services to refugees from all over the world.
In 1998, JERS forged a stronger and more direct relationship with two national faith-based agencies – Church World Service and Episcopal Migration Ministries - becoming their local affiliate in Western New York. Journey’s End currently serves more than 400 refugees annually.
The Presbytery of Western New York, its churches and their members, have been committed to the mission of Journey’s End since it was established. Whether it be by serving on the Board of Directors, sponsoring a refugee family, tutoring a child or adult struggling to learn a new language or by providing the financial support necessary to carry out the agency program the contributions of our Presbytery have helped make the vision of one dogged individual from a small church on the West Side of Buffalo not only come true but to survive and prosper for the last 25 years.
Please join us in celebrating this accomplishment.
