As part of their highly acclaimed Babel series, Just Buffalo Literary Center is proud to present National Book Award winner Maxine Hong Kingston, December 1, 2010 8:00 PM at Kleinhans Music Hall.

Maxine Hong Kingston is a Chinese American author and Professor Emeritus at the University of California, Berkeley, where she graduated with a BA in English in 1962. Kingston has written three novels and several works of non-fiction about the experiences of Chinese immigrants living in the United States. She has contributed to the feminist movement with such works as her memoir The Woman Warrior, which discusses gender and ethnicity and how these concepts affect the lives of women. Kingston has received several awards for her contributions to Chinese American Literature including the National Book Award in 1981 for her novel China Men.

BABEL, the largest literary lecture series of its kind which brings four of the world's leading International authors to Western New York each season for readings and discussions. The series, presented by Just Buffalo Literary Center, was recently honored as Buffalo's Most Innovative Arts Program in any discipline by Buffalo Spree magazine, and has been described as a "city-wide phenomenon."

The BABEL 2010/2011 Season features four critically acclaimed authors: V.S. Naipaul, Nobel Prize winner on October 19th 2010; Maxine Hong Kingston, National Book Award winner on December 1st, 2010; Edwidge Danticat, MacArthur Fellowship recipient on March 25th, 2011; and Chris Abani, PEN USA WEST Freedom to Write Award winner on April 15th, 2011. All performances take place at Kleinhans Music Hall in Buffalo.
